Third Sunday of Advent: http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/121717.cfm
At an Advent retreat, Maria, mother of twelve living children, testified to the light. She spoke to the importance of listening and responding to the voice of God, which “is beautifully demanding—He asks us to give it all.” She encouraged us to obey and act, for “Jesus rewards the giving of even a cup of water.” Maria testifies to Jesus by serving countless cups each day: water, milk, love, hugs, kindness, encouragement, compassion, and discipline. Maria’s presence radiates an inner peace while juggling two toddlers on her lap and addressing several children vying for her attention. In the midst of busy days and endless work, she joyfully testifies to the light. First Sunday in Advent
http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111917.cfm We watch for the turkey to cook, the toddler’s fever to break, the sun to rise, our children to grow, the ideal job, and Christmas morning. And then, we are consumed with distraction, fall asleep, wander through the days, and occupied in the minutia. And, all of a sudden the red button pops on the turkey, the two-year-old's forehead cools, the day breaks with beauty, our children leave home, the dream passes, another Advent has come and gone—and we have missed the moment. |
